  • 1.  Emergency Aid Disbursement

Hey all, hope the summer is starting off well for you. I wanted to reach out to ask how emergency aid is disbursed on your campuses?
    1. Is it sent to a students school account and then awarded as a refund?
    2. If so, what happens if the student has a balance on their account? Does the aid get absorbed by the balance and whatever is left is refunded(this is what we are currently dealing with)?
3.Any protocols or documents you can share?

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi Phillip,

At CU Boulder we have worked to create a few ways for students to get emergency funding. During enrollment periods students, if approved for emergency funding, can receive the money directly to their checking accounts. We have worked it out with the Bursars Office so that any emergency funding does not go to pay for their university bill first. For our center and our case management office we have stated we don't cover tuition however students can spend the money on whatever they need to when they receive it.

I don't think that particular process is documented, but the office of financial aid had a similar process in place when they were allocating federal emergency funding dollars to students during the pandemic.
