Student Organization Training

Hi All! Looking for some idea sharing here. I have been tasked with reimagining our student organization training. We currently do one mandatory training in the fall and one optional in the spring. We are recognizing the need to do more on specific topics- finances, travel, event planning, etc. Our challenge is that when we have done these trainings in the past, they have not been well attended. My questions are:
1) Other than the one mandatory all group training, what trainings do you offer your student organizations?
2) Are they required or incentivized in any way?
3) What is the attendance like?
4) What format are they in?
5) Do you have any resources you could point me to?

Hi Missy,

At SDSU there are 2 types of trainings that student orgs must go through to be a Recognized Student Org. The first one is the online training is organized by the office of Student Life and Leadership. You can find the information here: The first training is an Online training that must be completed by on of the 5 main officers, and there is also a training for the Student Org Advisor.

The second training is an inperson training that must be attended by the President and the Treasurer. It is called SOCIA. It's is a conflict resolution training that is organized by SLL but put on by the National Conflict Resolution Center. Since attendance is mandatory to gain all the privileges of being a RSO, there is good attendance at all of the SOCIA trainings.

If you want, you can reach out to the Assistant Director of SLL, Kevin Arujo-Lipine to learn more.
