Common area telephones

Do your buildings still have common phones available for general use?  I currently have one in 90% of meeting rooms and some hallways. Are there any regulations out there regarding phone access? If you've eliminated, could you please share signage you have to instruct people for assistance.  Thanks. Kris Vatter - St Olaf

Hi Kris. We don’t have any phones in our meeting rooms. Each floor has only 1 on-campus courtesy phone, but since almost everyone has a cell on them, they very rarely get used. I can’t remember the last time I saw anyone use them.


What we’ve done is put these small signs in 3 key places in each meeting room: on the bottom of the computer monitor, above the light switch, and on the exterior of the meeting room door (mostly in case the door is locked).
