Charging Stations

Hello all!

Our charging stations on campus are getting old and tired and nearing the end of their usefulness for students. We’re currently debating replacing them with a newer model (such as one that can actually secure phones vs our current ones which are just a shelf with various charger ends) or just buying some chargers to have available for rent at our information desks. Has anyone here recently upgraded charging stations? For those who have them, are they utilized well by students? If you found a good unit, which one are you using? Any input is appreciated as right now we don’t know if the low use of our stations is due to the limitations of the devices themselves or a lack of student interest in them.

Thank you!

We have recently installed table top charging stations.  They are located in our Bar/Game room.  Students feel comfortable utilizing them when they are sitting at the bar.  The cost was under $600 per unit.  For more detailed information please feel free to contact me at

Over the summer, we purchased more portable charging stations from KwikBoost.  They have the wireless charging feature but I don't see a ton of folks using it just yet.  I'm thinking that it is newer technology and people don't know as much about it.  We also have some wall charging stations in which people can sit and charge their devices.

I've heard about the secure options for charging stations but I've also heard that folks just don't like leaving the tech locked in a place and not having it.

I hope that this helps.  If you need additional information, please let me know -

We also use Kwikboost and have had pretty good luck with that.  Too, some newer furniture comes with charging out lets; related you might get some wall outlets that have usb jacks for charging.  Finally, in the past, I have had students put together some portable options.  Really just need a hub and some cords.   You might have some at your info desk/office/etc for check out if you want to keep track of portable options.

We use multiple kwikboost kiosks around our buildings. We've found that even though our kiosks don't allow our customers to lock up their phones/tablets people still use them. Further, all of out charging stations are freestanding. This way they can be relocated when necessary into, or out of, event space. Wireless charging isn't something we've put together yet. We've chosen not to pursue it yet because our current system gets enough utilization for us to maintain them. In the future, when/if a wireless charging system is available on most devices we may investigate it, but for now the portability of the charging stations is the most convenient feature for us.
