Leadership/Community Engagement focused Orientation/Transition summer program

Posted by Erin Williamson on Jan 8, 2019 2:44 pm

Hello Leadership and Service Ed COP!
My office is brainstorming the idea of beginning a summer program for incoming first-year and/or transfer students that focuses on leadership development and community engagement. We were thinking of an August program where the students wouldn't arrive to campus early. Anyone have programs similar and would be willing to share agendas, theoretical approaches, activities, service project examples, etc.?

Thanks!

Hi Erin!

We do a program called Explore your IMPACT here at Clemson that is similar to what you are describing. When we started, we just did 1 session in the days leading up to the start of the year but with the growth of the program we have added a summer session as well. Students that participate in the earlier summer session are provided temporary summer housing through our camps/conferences accommodations on campus and students who participate in the beginning of the semester version are allowed to move into their residence halls early

You can find a brief overview at our website: https://www.clemson.edu/campus-life/activities-events/student-activities/slce/programs/impact.html and I am attaching a copy of the participant schedule here, but I am happy to elaborate and provide additional resources to anyone who is interested.
