Alternative Break Info Sharing

Hello Everyone! It is hard to believe it is already November and that the end of the fall semester is rapidly approaching. As we look to the spring semester, tell us what your plans are for Alternative Spring Break on your campus! We'd love to hear about the community partners you have built relationships with, social issues you are addressing, and especially about any sites you'd recommend to your colleagues.

Hi y'all!

In case you were thinking of heading to Wilmington, North Carolina for Hurricane Florence recovery, I thought the attached document would be helpful. This is the document we at UNCW used post-storm to connect students, community members, volunteers, and alumni with local non-profit and service organizations. It has hyperlinks to their websites and some information related to their needs and services post-storm. Please utilize however useful to you.

Also, my colleague in my office, Amanda Gabbard, is our Coordinator for Community Engagement for the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement. She has graciously offered to be a contact for you if you are looking to chat with someone local to the area who could answer questions. Her email is gabbarda@uncw.edu. Please use our office however it would be helpful!

I know for us, we are considering a return to serve in Atlanta, GA with Restoration ATL, an organization that works with the local homeless population through a shelter called City of Refuge. We are also considering a local stay-and-serve opportunity for our students considering the work still needed to be done in Wilmington.

Please let me know if I can answer any questions!
