Happy 2019!

Happy 2019! I hope the new year is off to a positive start for each of you, and that you got some time away to relax and recharge. I have a few things I’d like to share with you to kick-off the new year!

ACUI Annual Conference Update
As we’re now in 2019, the annual conference isn’t far away! If you’re looking for ways to increase your involvement in ACUI, I want to draw your attention to one of the volunteer opportunities in Indy. New this year, Communities of Practice will host a booth throughout the conference where attendees can learn more about each community and start, or continue, their involvement. We’re hoping a booth will provide a more personal touch to connect with Communities of Practice. No prior knowledge is needed, as you'll be provided with everything when you show up for your shift! You can sign-up to help staff the booth here.

Be on the lookout soon for information about our community meeting time! I'm starting to prep some things, so let me know if there's something in particular you'd like to do with our time together. I’m looking forward to connecting with those of you that can make it!

Community Updates:

  • Are you interested in sharing more about your late night program with the community? Do you have a great idea or unique element about your program, you think we could learn from (or steal)? Then you should think about sharing those thoughts through our monthly Late Night Highlight! I’m still looking for a January poster, so let me know if you’re interested.
  • I’ve also been thinking about how we can connect as community outside of our forum, and am starting to explore what a monthly virtual round table or meeting might look like. We could come together around a specific topic or just gather to crowdsource? I’m open to what this could be, so let me know what you think! Even you think it wouldn’t beneficial, I’d love to know!
Community Question:
New Year’s Resolutions are a hot topic! I’m not really a fan of them, but still spend a few moments thinking about what I’d like to accomplish, work towards, etc during the year, both personally and professionally. As we start 2019, what are your goals for your late night programs this semester?

A goal I have for UMix (University of Michigan’s late night program), is to create a better environment for students to meet new people. Based on our fall data, many students reported UMix was a great place to go with your friends, but it wasn’t easy to meet new people and make connections. Loneliness rates are up at Michigan, so this is a need for our campus. Would love to hear how your programs help foster new friendships at your late night events!

Lots going on! Hope you've had a good week!

Hello Everyone,

Regarding virtual round tables, I think that's a great idea! I know my GAs and I would be interested in this.

Goal for the new year: Late Nite Binghamton has become a highly-collaborative organization, which is great, but this has created some issues as well. We are constantly adding events and entering into partnerships after our event schedule is finalized, which is beginning to overload our GAs and myself. Because of this, we are going to start saying "no" more while shifting focus to our core programs (weekly film and weekly themed event series).

At ACUI, I will be presenting on the reconceptualization and recent success of the Late Nite Binghamton program. I hope to meet some of you there, and please let me know in advance if there are any topics you would like me to touch on.
