Photos at Events

Hey All-

We have our students take photos at events but have found lately that they aren't the best. I was wondering if anyone else has their students take photos at their events and if so, do you have them go through a training, class, or anything? How do you get them to take quality photos that can be use for promotional stuff? We would like to use the photos for promos, websites, calendars, ect but cant seem to get them to take good photos. Any insight is appreciated!

Hi Chelsea,

At the University of Michigan, we use student photographers from our Marketing Dept. We connect with them if there's an event in particular we want them to photograph, but otherwise they just kind of show-up and share the photos through Box. We don't pay for this service, but since Marketing creates all our promotional material, it saves time on us having to send them photos & they know it's the quality they need. I would suggest seeing if you have student photographers either through Marketing or maybe an Art department.

We have student photographers cover our events as well. We hire only photographer majors/ minors, so that they come in with some knowledge already and can apply what they're learning in class to our events.
