Contagious Disease Response

Posted by Adriane Reilly on Mar 21, 2019 11:39 am

Hello colleagues!

Unfortunately, our friends at Temple University have been managing a mumps outbreak and today we just got word of our first confirmed case at West Chester University. Do any of you have a standard operating procedure for contagious disease response in your facilities? Do you have special protocol for the custodial staff, provide signs or masks at entrances, increase hand sanitizer availability?

We are inquiring if this student has visited the Student Union during the incubation period of the disease, to get a sense of the potential to spread here. Any advice from others is much appreciated!

See you in Indy!
Adriane

Contagious Disease Response

When we have had flu cases increasing we look at education to help combat it. Our clinic prepares flyers that we put up in restrooms, bulletin boards, digital signage, etc. in the facility. Year-round we do some other things. We put hand sanitizer out at all of our desks and in our student office. Our custodial staff cleans with Sanimaster 6, which is a hospital-grade disinfectant. When a disease is growing we clean areas more frequently, especially touchable items (doorknobs, handrails, game room equipment, etc.). We’ve been fortunate that we haven’t had to do more than that over the years.
