ADA Accommodations/Podiums

Posted by Paul Manka on Dec 6, 2018 7:09 pm

We have had a recent increase for ADA accommodations, specifically without podiums in our larger event spaces. This has proven difficult as our podiums are not height adjustable. I know that there are several height adjustable podiums on the market, and some that are specifically labeled as ADA accessible. However, I would like to know if any other union building has experience with height adjustable podiums. My concerns are around longevity of the units, what your own communities may have commented on the units, and if there is a specific model we should be looking at, as none of the vendors listed here on ACUI seem to have podiums at all.

Thank you,

We have a Da-Lite, now part of Legrand, that has been here longer than I have been.  It is quite heavy, but it works great and still looks good (we keep it covered when not in use, that helps).  For as useful as it is for meeting accommodations, it is also quite popular for general use as well because of the size of the work surface.  Users can really spread out. Downside is they are not cheap.  Here is the link to the actual unit: https://www.legrandav.com/products/da-lite/furniture/lecterns/ada_lectern

Hi Paul,

Our Union has one adjustable podium that we use pretty regularly. I don't know the specifics of it, but you should reach out to our AV Tech, Lance Raney (lance.raney@wisc.edu), or our Production Manager, Steve Zywicki (steven.zywicki@wisc.edu), if you'd like more info.

Best,
