    Hello all!

For those of you who are using the CAS Standards for your program reviews, is anyone assessing for Campus Information and Visitor Services? While we have an information desk, it seems to be more geared towards an Admissions area, but I am curious what others think.

    Thank you!

    Good Morning,

I am the ACUI Liaison to CAS so I have had had a lot of experience with the program reviews and how to use the standards.  The most effect way I can think to help you out is for us to connect on the phone or zoom.  The short answer would be to look at the General Standard, the Campus Information Services, and the College Union Standards.  With all the standards, the MUST statements are the true framework.  the should and may statements are suggestions since there is no one way to do what we do.  We rarely are comparing apples to apples.

Another suggestion is to include other information specialists on your campus such as the library, admission or welcome center, etc.  You may find some common resources your center could benefit from with the collaboration.  I would be glad to talk you through the process if you like.  It really is something I will do for anyone wanting some guidance or suggestions on how to best use the standards.  Let me know what works for you.

    Hi Giancarlo,
We are in the middle of our CAS process now. Our divisional assessment team did have us looking at this at first, however, once we read through the introduction and 'must' statements we realized it was not aligned with our information center. To support this, we shared with our divisional assessment numbers from our information center related to the types of inquiries we received in a given month: Total questions asked in March: 1,385; Off campus related: 15; On campus: 175; Student Union: 1195.
Based off this information and our conversations of the scope of our information center we did not align with the Campus Information and Visitor Services program review and it was removed from our scope.

    Happy to chat further!

    Morgan,

I would be very interested in talking with you about this.  I went back and read the MUST statements of the CIVS standard.  I would really appreciate some examples of how they did not resonate with your Information Center.  I I will take the information back to the CIVS council member so she can have the information when the standard is being reviewed.  Can we set up a time to talk?  Next week is a beast for obvious reasons however the week the 16th is fairly flexible.  Let me know.

    Matthew and Morgan,

Thank you both for your responses! Would it be possible to arrange for a conference call with the two of you? I think we could probably all benefit from speaking with each other. Would the morning of December 18th before 11:30 AM EST work for the both of you?

    Giancarlo,

That would work for me.  If we settle on a time I could set up Zoom meeting so we could share materials, etc.  Let me know.  Happy to help in any way that I can.
