    Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone has student training resources to share. We will most likely be conducting an in-person training in the fall for our info desk workers, and I would like to know the best practices for student trainings that you have used. We really want to bridge the gap that COVID caused and ensure all info desk workers are on the same page and feel prepared to do their job.

    Thanks!

Hello! I am working on doing the same thing. Some of our staff were hired during COVID and do not know what the building is like during a "normal" semester, as well as some of our older staff getting used to not doing certain tasks and things that were relaxed during COVID. I have created a PowerPoint that we will go going over with the staff that outlines all of the expectations, as well as a group training exercises at the Info Desk doing role play scenarios with the staff. At our Info Desk there is a computer for the students to use where I will be saving the PowerPoint to the Desktop so that it can be accessed at anytime by the students if they need to reference it. Hope this helps!

    Hi John,

It's definitely going to be quite the challenge - especially getting enough students hired to staff our desk and building ASAP since we'll go back to full operations as soon as welcome week begins, but hiring paperwork takes time... that's the first hurdle we're trying to get ahead of.

For our building managers, I have a slide deck that puts numbers onto our building floor plan with specific step by step instructions for how to open or close the building. I plan to do the same with some photos of our desk area, so that if a student ends up working a shift alone on their own, they have pretty much an exact guide of what to do to open or close the desk area. Figuring that will be helpful for new students in the future as well. Making sure students have access to virtual copies of training materials is also going to be important since students will be out of practice, or need extra time to think through complicated tasks.

Agreed with Michelle on the role play scenarios - anything that can be hands on practice for complicated scenarios (like creating dummy ticket events for box office sales at our desk) I hope will be effective, and can help students learn from each other, and our few returning students who do have prior experience.
