  • 1.  No External Events Until January 2022

Dear Colleagues -  Greetings from UMass Boston. Like many of you, we are in the midst of discussing and finalizing plans for the Fall of 2021.  (Note:  We have been operating remotely since March 2020).  Not surprisingly, part of our planning involves events, what will return, when and how.  We are not hosting internal or external events this Summer, but will do so this Fall.  See the link below for Binghamton University.  They have made the decision not to host any external events this Fall.  I am interested in hearing how many campuses are taking as similar approach.  Has your campus made a similar decision?

At Emory, technically this summer we've only been barred from hosting external events where minors are present, but our summer business is 85%ish camps and a lot of the conferences we host are remaining virtual, so we are planning for low or no external presence.  No decision has been made about the fall regarding external events, though we do a lot less fall/spring external event business due to space constraints.

    Hi Geoff,

Our return to event life has been slow. Our building has remained open this past year, and also hosted classes in the building. Otherwise, initially, there were no meetings/events permitted. Then, it expanded to groups of 10 or less with social distancing and masks [only internal departments or orgs]. Eventually, we expanded to allow meetings/events at the socially distanced capacities of the spaces, with masks, no food [which is approx. 75% reduction of normal capacities]. To be approved, currently, all meeting/event applications have to go through an approval process with an event committee and then safety committee before they can be booked. We also started requiring students to have a negative COVID-19 test within the prior 7 days to attend events in the Spring. We do provide the testing for free on campus. For Fall, the campus is planning to have a much fuller range of engagement, but we don't have details on what the guidelines will be as of yet. Summer groups are limited, mostly internal, and we will have a combination of in person and virtual Orientations.

I hope that helps. Feel free to email me if you have further questions!
    Wendy
