  • 1.  Definition of engagement

    Good afternoon everyone, 

    Our team is working on outlining the importance of engagement and how we holistically develop our students through that engagement.  Does anyone have a definition, article, or other research that blends the definition of engagement to include the student affairs(participation in extra-curricular) side and the academic (GPA and persistence) side?

    Hi Chrissie,

     

    I'm not sure this has a specific definition, but ACUI conducted research a few years ago that looked at engagement in the college union, which resulted in three Bulletin articles – one of which highlighted the role of the college union (including engagement) and an institution's academic mission.     You might also look at the Student Engagement chapter that Thomas Lane and Brett Perozzi wrote in Spring 2014 New Directions for Student Services issue that was on contemporary issues and trends in the college union.
