Hi Lauren,
We have a similar scenario here at Syracuse where a campus road was converted into what was termed a promenade, now known as the Einhorn Family Walk. It opened summer of 2017. On the North side of the EFW are a number of terraces with bench seating. The terraces are leveled in relation to the EFW which has some grade to it, and we allow the terraces to be reserved individually for organization tabling. We generally don't reserve the EFW itself as a whole because we've been directed not to. Due to our campus geography, even though the EFW is closed to vehicular traffic, it is still primary access for a number of buildings for city fire and other emergency response units. When we do make exceptions we do not allow any tents or furniture on the EFW itself. The few requests we get from student organizations are for parades or walks. We've done some smaller events for Homecoming and Orientation, groups who have the clout to override policy, but those have been few and far between. I hope that helps, let me know if you have any questions!
Scott

Subject: Managing Events on Pedestrian Corridor
Hi Industry Friends,
I am an Event Manager at Purdue University, Purdue Memorial Union. Last summer Purdue converted one of our central campus streets into a pedestrian friendly corridor. https://www.purdue.edu/newsroom/releases/2020/Q3/major-makeover-transforms-third-street-into-pedestrian-friendly-corridor.html
Recently, this corridor has been given to my department to manage select university wide, event reservations. I am curious; do any of your institutions have a similar venue? As we are creating policies for this new venue, I would love to hear from you regarding your practices.
Appreciate your time and have a wonderful weekend!
